| 8:00 PM - 10:00 PM | WAITING FOR LEFTY by Clifford Odets and other short plays "My God, Joe - the world is supposed to be for all of us." So says Edna, the hard-charging wife of Joe, the cab driver, who is being squeezed by his bosses to work more hours for less pay in Clifford Odets' play, Waiting For Lefty. First produced by The Group Theatre in 1935, Waiting For Lefty was a critical and popular success. Mr. Odets took his inspiration for the play from a 1934 strike by a group of unionized cab drivers in New York. The play takes a hard look at the difficulties faced by workers confronted by economic hardship and social upheaval. Waiting For Lefty will be performed by KU students under the direction of Professor James N. Brown, in conjunction with Sure Thing and The Philadelphia by David Ives. |
